Well into his third decade as a recording artist, Kevin Keller delves deeply into the space where acoustic instruments, electronics, and contemplation meet on ALTUS, his 16th album.

 

Following a pair of albums that featured vocals more prominently than usual, Keller returns to the synthesizers that shaped his earliest work, but with a musical language transformed by everything he has explored since. The result

is an album that synthesizes strands of his past with a new sense of sonic and spiritual discovery.

As so often in Keller's music, there is a journey here, but this time the journey is inward and upward. ALTUS moves through states of wonder, uncertainty, reflection, and recognition, gradually revealing a destination Keller himself

did not consciously anticipate. "I wasn't illustrating an idea; I was discovering one. The music often seemed to understand the destination before I consciously did." No words are needed to explain the destination. The music has taken us there.
